find out about Ad Tennis coaching and tennis training
Andy Moir and Samantha Marsh formed Ad Tennis in 2001 using the new LTA Mini Tennis concept. The aim of Mini Tennis is to attract and keep youngsters playing the game of tennis. It is designed as a traffic light system Red, Orange and Green with the court size and equipment adapted accordingly to age and ability. The objective of Ad Tennis is to provide a structured coaching system which both encourages juniors to learn how to play tennis and also to continue playing throughout their lives. We do this by keeping groups small and having plenty of qualified staff to help. This also provides a secure and safe environment, enabling children to learn faster and to have fun having mastered a new skill. We know that if they enjoy tennis they will stick with it. Using the LTA's Mini Tennis branding along with the awards scheme, means both children and their parents can measure their progress. We care about each and every child's development and encourage parents to discuss their child's progress with their coach.
As a natural progression from Mini Tennis we also run a Performance Programme. Selection is through coaches recommending a player to Andy Moir (Head of Performance) to assess. To be selected a coach will be looking for athleticism, determination and a passion to play. A coach will only nominate juniors with exceptional talent.
In 2004 Ad Tennis officially formed its Junior Performance Section and since this time a number of players have gone on to represent Ad Tennis in County finals events. Currently Ad Tennis has several players who have been identified by the LTA and receive Regional / Country training at the National Tennis Centre. We have won the Little League title and several Mini League titles. In 4 years we have never failed to have a team qualify for a County final at Mini Tennis level.
During 2007 our first subsidised performance camps were launched with players being invited to attend intensive training and off court sessions to better prepare juniors for the stress and commitment required by top international full time players. In 2009 we hope to run our first trip away with a number of top players.
Summer 2008 will see the launch of an open tournament programme for all junior levels. Cobham will be the main venue and support from Tennis Surrey wil provide local juniors in the area an opportunity to pit them selves against other club players and raise the standards even more.
Adult tennis has taken off and a number of successful adult sessions run at both Lightwater and Cobham. During 2008 Ad Tennis plans to have its first adult teams compete in local competition
Ad Tennis now has over 1200 children playing Mini Tennis and tennis at our sites. We now have an active role in supporting the highly successful David Lloyd programme at Reed's School Cobham and currently train all school team players. Several County players are also looked after by our performance coaches providing the back up and quality which makes Reed's School Tennis programme second to none in Surrey.
Development of Ad Tennis Sites continues with 3 brand new floodlit courts at Cobham and plans for a future third indoor court are currently being reviewed.
Lightwater's 2.5 million pound investment is now underway and the new facilities are due to open at various stages in 2008. The development of the Tennis facility is well underway and it is hoped that once all the legal aspect is completed work may start late 2008 / early 2009.
In 7 years the team has expanded to 7 full time coaches and 3 part time with over 15 coaches working during holiday periods. We pride ourselves on providing a coaching programme that is progressive whilst being fun.
